Shivani Daxini has just completed her internship with Citizen Songwriters through Durham University's Social Enterprise Live Project. She shares her experiences of working on the Citizens Online project which has been keeping the community connected during lockdown.

Citizen Songwriters is partnering with City of Sanctuary to offer a unique 6 week course on 'Sanctuary Songwriting'. The course will explore writing lyrics, making music and creating unique songs on different stories of seeking sanctuary.


March 15, 2020

Stories of Sanctuary brought together musicians and singers from across the North (from Northumberland to Teesside) to share original songs at St Mary's Church, Lindisfarne.

The project began in the summer of 2018 after singer-songwriter Sam Slatcher was awarded Arts Council funding to run a project that brought together residents of the city of Durham with newly settled Syrian refugees.

Over the weekend of 28 – 29th June 2019, Citizen Songwriters partnered with performance artist Natasha Davis and ARC Stockton to produce ‘Welcome Town’, an art installation engaging members of the public around themes of welcome for those seeking protection from war and conflict.
